A while back, I blogged about white russian cupcakes. I was testing out a recipe for an order I had coming up. The cupcakes were for a wedding shower a couple, a lingerie shower to be exact, and the host thought it would be fun to have cocktail cupcakes. So, I made the white russian cupcakes and champagne cupcakes that were stuffed with a fresh strawberry. These cupcakes were all delicious and I would gladly make them again any time!
Uma's cake
One of my bosses, Uma, left our office last week. We had a farewell party for her, and of course I volunteered to make the cake. Uma is originally from India, and I knew I wanted to incorporate that into my design somehow. Since I waited until the night before the party to make the cake (including baking the cake and making the pineapple filling), I didn't want anything too elaborate and knew I wanted to limit the design to one color. I googled images of wedding cakes and henna and mehndi designs, using all of the beautiful images as my inspiration. I iced the cake with buttercream and piped the design with royal icing, using paisley cookie cutters as a template, working my way around the cake, adding lots of details as I went.
I love decorating cakes, but any time I can work in a little more art/design, the happier I am. Uma loved the cake as well, which only made me love it more. That was, after all, my goal!
